In A Nutshell | March 28, 2014

Hello, Oak Chapel Friends,
We are midway through our Lenten series “Journey of Stones.” I pray that it has been meaningful for you in your relationship with Jesus Christ. This Sunday my sermon is titled “Hearts of Stone” based on Luke 11: 37 – 52. I will also be preaching at the Sunday evening Lenten service at New Pittsburg UMC at 7:00pm. My message there will be titled “Blindness of the Heart” based on John 9: 1 – 41.

Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.

Nursery Assistants
Terra Aten is our nursery coordinator and works in the nursery each Sunday morning. Her assistant this Sunday is April Aten. Next Sunday’s (4/6) assistant is Tina Clevidence.

Easter Egg Hunt
The Outreach Committee is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for children in our community on Saturday, April 12 at 10am. The event, held on the parsonage lawn, will include a traditional egg hunt, games and pictures with the Easter Bunny. Please invite your friends and neighbors to this fun event. All are welcome!

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering
This Sunday will be our One Great Hour of Sharing offering. One of the six designated Special Sunday offerings, One Great Hour of Sharing calls United Methodists to share the goodness of life with those who hurt. The offering provides administrative support for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) as it responds to disaster survivors and people in need around the world.

From the Trustees
The Trustees are moving forward with the parking lot project. We will need some help in taking down the diseased trees between the parking lot and the road. Join us on Saturday, April 5 at 9am. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone in need of firewood. Work on the parking lot itself will take place the week after Easter.

Welcoming Ministry Training
“Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors” You have heard it on TV and seen it in print, but would you like to be a part of a group that assures that this is a reality for anyone who enters the doors of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church? The Welcoming Ministry One Hour Training has been set for Tuesday, April 1 at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Please prayerfully consider participating in the training and help us, as a church, move forward in our mission to serve God and community.

Sunday Evening Lenten Series
During this season of Lent, we are continuing our tradition of gathering for evening worship with the Moreland and New Pittsburg United Methodist Churches on Sundays at 7:00pm. There will be a time of fellowship after each service. The two remaining services are as follows:
Sunday, March 30 – Rev. Robin Dillon preaching at New Pittsburg UMC
Sunday, April 6 – Rev. Jim Pfander preaching at Oak Chapel UMC
Our United Methodist Men are in charge of the fellowship time after the service on April 6. There will be an ice cream bar with all the fixings. You won’t want to miss it!

Compass Group Mission Trip Informational Meeting
The Wayne County 5/4 Compass Group will return to New Jersey this summer to do relief and restoration work for those affected by Superstorm Sandy. Last year, four members (Natalie & Pete Bunt and Pam & Kim Domer) and Pastor Robin participated. Pastor Robin is organizing this year’s trip and we’d love to have more folks from Oak Chapel join us. The dates are Sunday, July 27 through Saturday, August 2. The cost of the trip is $350 per person. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00p.m. at Oak Chapel UMC. There you will hear stories from last year’s trip and get details about this year’s trip. Please join us on April 29 and prayerfully consider this mission opportunity.
