Hello, Oak Chapel Friends,
This Sunday begins our summer worship schedule with our Heritage service at 8:30am in the Sanctuary and our Celebration service at 10:30am in our air-conditioned fellowship hall. A combined adult Sunday School class will be held at 9:30am in fellowship hall. Given recent events and our congregation’s collective grief, I have decided that I will not begin my new sermon series What’s the Least I Can Believe and Still be a Christian? until next Sunday, June 29. This Sunday I will offer a meditation titled “It’s Hard to Let God be God” based on Romans 8: 38 – 39.
I look forward to the opportunity to gather together this Sunday for worship, prayer, fellowship and support of one another.
Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.
Spaghetti Dinner
To offset the cost of the New Jersey mission trip, the Outreach Committee is hosting a spaghetti dinner after the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, June 29. We will serve spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and bread. Please see April Aten for more information.
United Methodist Women Quarterly Meeting
In conjunction with the spaghetti dinner, the United Methodist Women will hold their quarterly meeting after our Celebration (10:30) worship next Sunday, June 29. All women of the church are encouraged to participate.
Nursery Helpers
This Sunday’s nursery assistant is April Aten. The assistant for next Sunday is Tina Clevidence.
Save the Date! Back to School Bash
On Saturday, August 16, the Outreach Committee will host a Community Back to School Bash on the church grounds. The event, held the weekend before the start of school, will include a barbeque with all the fixings, games for all ages and a bounce house for kids. Mark your calendar now and begin thinking about who you will invite to this event.
Disney Sermon Series
Disney movies have entertained us for over 75 years. Beginning August 17 (the day after the Back to School Bash), Pastor Robin will do a four-week sermon series titled “The Gospel in Disney.” This series will look at scriptural themes in four popular Disney movies. Whether you are 4 or 94, you will enjoy the gospel themes presented in a brand new way. If you have a favorite Disney movie you would like included in this series, please let Pastor Robin know.
Vacation Bible School
Don’t forget our Vacation Bible School is scheduled for Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18 beginning with supper at 5:30 each evening. Invite the children you know to participate in this fun week of learning about God and God’s love! Register online at our church website – www.oakchapelumc.com. There are also plenty of opportunities to help. See Jen Moser for more information.
Attention Committee Chairmen and women!
Please provide your 2015 Budget request to Stuart Mykrantz, Finance Chairman and Bill Braucher, Treasurer, no later than Thursday, July 31. Then plan to attend the Finance Committee Meeting on August 10 to discuss your inputs.
