Hello, Oak Chapel friends,
Please join us tomorrow, Saturday, November 14 for our Fall work day. This outdoor work will begin at 9:00 and continue until Noon, or all of the leaves are gone! In the event of rain, the workday will be rescheduled.
Our worship on Sunday will be based on Mark 13: 1 – 8 with my sermon titled “Red Cups and Other Signs of the End.” Stick around after worship for our monthly fellowship luncheon. I look forward to sharing this meal with you. Please bring a dish or two to share and your own table service.
Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.
Children’s Sunday School Assistants
Terra Aten leads the young children’s Sunday School class that meets during worship each Sunday morning. Her assistant this Sunday, 11/15 is Pam Domer. Her assistant next Sunday, 11/22 is Cathy Shallenberger.
Veterans Picture
We would like to have a picture of all of the veterans who are members of Oak Chapel or are connected to our church in some way. We are asking all veterans to gather at the front of the sanctuary this Sunday, November 15 after worship for a group picture.
Decorating the Church
On Sunday, November 22 we will have a light lunch and then decorate the church for the Advent and Christmas seasons. Come join us for this time of festive fellowship. Many hands make light work.
Last Call for Candy Orders!
Our annual Candy Making season is winding down. If you would like to purchase some bags of this delectable delight, please contact Elizabeth Feldman at 330-465-5782 or eflogil@gmail.com.
Advent / Christmas Worship Series – Testify to Love
“Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
Our scriptures for the Advent/Christmas season allude to a powerful Love that we wait for, that we witness at the coming of the Christ child, and that we embody as children of God–the Body of Christ. The hymn “Love Came Down at Christmas” reminds us that God’s love lives among us and within us–our love is a token of the presence of God still working today. A more current song, “Testify to Love” (recorded by Wynona Judd and Christian group Avalon, and made popular on the TV series “Touched by an Angel”), is the inspiration for the theme. It will remind us throughout the season that God’s call to us is to testify to this amazing love, giving thanks to God “with every breath we take!” This season is a good time to invite your friends and neighbors to church. Why not invite them to join you for this new worship series?
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Members and friends of Oak Chapel UMC will once again rings bells for the Salvation Army. This year we will ring on December 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buehler’s Town Market. Please see Janet Kauffman to sign up or call her at 330-435-4569.
Workshop on United Methodist Sacraments
As United Methodists we celebrate two sacraments – Baptism and Holy Communion. Our lives in Christ are grounded in baptism and sustained by communion. We are called to not only receive these sacraments, but to live them. Would you like to learn more about these practices and understand their life-enriching value? Pastor Robin will lead a workshop on baptism and communion on Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. till Noon in Fellowship Hall. Those who pre-register by Sunday, November 15 will receive a free book. Register on today’s attendance slip or by calling the church office.
