Hello, Oak Chapel friends,
This Sunday, October 11 we will begin a four-week worship series titled Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. During these four weeks we will explore what the Bible teaches about financial management. Each week we will provide you with some practical tools you can use to assess your financial situation and develop a financial plan with a biblical foundation. This Sunday’s message titled “When Dreams Become Nightmares” is based on 1 Timothy 6: 6 – 10. We hope you will join us as we look at how to manage our financial resources and truly experience simplicity, generosity, and joy.
Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.
Children’s Sunday School Assistants
Terra Aten leads the young children’s Sunday School class that meets during worship each Sunday morning. Her assistant this Sunday, 10/11 is April Aten. Her assistant next Sunday, 10/18 is Tracy Braucher.
October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Everyone is encouraged to donate homemade items, plants, nice-as-new, and food for the Kitchen Korner. We will need help that day with the lunch stand, serving and cleaning up. Miriam Zech will be happy to sign you up!
Candy Making
Our annual candy making tradition will start tomorrow – Monday, October 12 at 6:15 in Fellowship Hall. New candy cutters are always welcome. No experience necessary – we will train you! Come join this great time of fun and fellowship.
Candy Sales
Have you tasted Oak Chapel’s famous glass candy? Isn’t it yummy? Surely you want to buy some. Just $5 per bag. They make great gifts for teachers, hairstylists, and other service workers. Also consider selling this delicious treat to your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Feldman at or 330-465-5782 or eflogil@gmail.com.
Trunk or Treat
The Outreach Committee is very excited about our fifth annual Trunk or Treat, which will be held on Sunday, October 25 from 3:30 – 5:00pm in our parking lot. Decorate your trunk, dress up if you wish, and get ready to hand out candy to the children in our community. There will also be cookie decorating. Tell your friends and neighbors and come join the fun!
Thanksgiving Cantata
The choirs of Church of the Cross, Moreland, Oak Chapel and Wooster United Methodist Churches will join together on Sunday, November 1 at 4:00 p.m. to present a Thanksgiving cantata titled “We Have Come.” This musical, held at the Church of the Cross UMC, 5100 Cleveland Road, will include additional pieces with handbells and a small vocal ensemble. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
Coats for Mountain Vision
We are in need of new or gently used winter coats to take with us when we go the Valley Head, West Virginia for our annual Christmas Party. It has been several years since we have had coats to take to the children and there is a definite need. Coats can be dropped off in the Saplings Room across from the church office. More information about supporting this ministry by purchasing Christmas gifts will be shared when we have a list of the children from West Virginia.
Jefferson Pioneers 4- H Club
The Jefferson Pioneers 4-H Club would like to thank the church for their continued support. They had a great year and the kids are already thinking of ideas for next year!
All Saints Sunday
On Sunday, November 1, we will celebrate All Saints Day during worship. This special day on the liturgical calendar is a time to remember those “in the company of heaven” with whom we always worship and share the Lord’s Supper. We will read the names of and light a candle for those who have died since All Saints Day last year. If you would like your loved one included, please contact Pastor Robin.
Workshop on United Methodist Sacraments
As United Methodists we celebrate two sacraments – Baptism and Holy Communion. Our lives in Christ are grounded in baptism and sustained by communion. We are called to not only receive these sacraments, but to live them. Would you like to learn more about these practices and understand their life-enriching value? Pastor Robin will lead a workshop on baptism and communion on Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. till Noon in Fellowship Hall. Those who pre-register by Sunday, November 16 will receive a free book. Register on today’s attendance slip or by calling the church office.
Fellowship Luncheons
Our first Fellowship Luncheon of the season will be held after worship on Sunday, October 18. Oak Chapel has traditionally held these luncheons on the third Sunday of each month during Fall and Winter (October through March). Please join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship for some scrumptious food and fabulous fellowship. This is a great way to build and grow relationships with others in our community of faith. Bring a dish to share and your own table service.
Church Clean-Up Day
The Trustees will host a church clean-up / work day on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 a.m. till Noon. Please mark your calendars and plant to help!
