In A Nutshell | January 8, 2016

Hello, Oak Chapel friends,
Happy New Year! I trust that this first week of 2016 has been one of blessings for you and yours!

This Sunday, January 10, we will celebrate Baptism of our Lord Sunday. We will honor those whose leadership terms ended in 2015 and have the installation of our 2016 church leaders. My sermon, “Something in the Water” is based on the account of Jesus’ baptism in the Gospel of Luke (3: 15 – 17, 21 – 22). Together we will participate in the service of reaffirmation of the baptismal covenant. And in addition to the choir, we will have special music by pianist Mark Ritchey. You won’t want to miss this meaningful worship experience!

Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.

Children’s Sunday School Assistants
Terra Aten leads the young children’s Sunday School class that meets during worship each Sunday morning. Her assistant this Sunday, 1/10 is Tracy Braucher.  Her assistant next Sunday, 1/17 is Joanne Jolliff.
Canal District Leadership Training
The annual Canal District Leadership Training Event will be Saturday, January 30 at Northampton United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. This year’s theme is “Church Vitality and Our Wesleyan Tradition.” The sessions will address leadership of various committees needed to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Anyone may attend. All church leaders should attend. Please see Pastor Robin for a brochure. The registration deadline is next Sunday, January 17.

Chili Cook-Off
The United Methodist Men will hold their Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, January 23 beginning at 5:00 p.m. If you would like to enter your chili, please see Kim Domer or Bill Braucher for an entry form. Everyone will have an opportunity to taste each entry and vote for their top three choices. The meal for the evening will be chili made by last year’s winner. This event always proves to be a great time of fellowship. Come, bring your friends and join the festivities.

Fellowship Luncheon
Next Sunday, January 17 we will have our monthly fellowship luncheon after worship. This month dessert will be provided. Please bring a main dish or a side dish or two to share, as well as your table service.

Our United Methodist Youth Fellowship will once again be selling Super Bowl Subs. The cost is $5.50 per sub and orders must be placed by Sunday, January 31. The subs can be picked up after worship on Sunday, February 7. Please see insert in this Sunday’s bulletin for more information.

ESL Sunday School Class
Last Sunday, January 3 at 9:30 a.m. Georgia Taylor started an English as a Second Language (ESL) adult Sunday School class. She is using What Christians Believe and How Christians Grow by J. Wesley Eby. Both texts are written for ESL classes. Many students at the OARDC and residents in Wooster need help with conversational English. Discussion time will be a large part of each class.  When you see new people coming into the church, looking lost, please help them to find the ESL class in the library.
