In A Nutshell | October 23, 2015

Hello, Oak Chapel friends,
Tomorrow is our annual bazaar which will feature craft items including quilts, jewelry, knitted items, Christmas gifts and more. Of course, we will also sell mincemeat, candy, cookies and pies, too! Come shop, then enjoy a scrumptious chicken sandwich or ham loaf for lunch. The bazaar runs from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. There is also still time to help or bring crafts. Please contact Miriam Zech at 330-317-0006.

On Sunday, we continue our four-week worship series titled Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. During this series we have explored what the Bible teaches about financial management. This Sunday’s message titled “Cultivating Contentment” is based on Philippians 4: 10 – 13.  Mark Ritchey will provide special music. We hope you will join us for worship at 10:30 a.m. as we learn to truly experience simplicity, generosity, and joy.

Come back to church on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. for our annual Trunk or Treat. Decorate your car and hand out candy to the kids in our community. Invite your friends, neighbors, children, and grandchildren to trick or treat in a safe environment. There will also be cookie decorating. Kids of all ages welcome!

Below you will find announcements and other important information about upcoming events. Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.

Coats for Mountain Vision
We are in need of new or gently used winter coats to take with us when we go the Valley Head, West Virginia for our annual Christmas Party.  It has been several years since we have had coats to take to the children and there is a definite need.  Coats can be dropped off in the Saplings Room across from the church office.  More information about supporting this ministry by purchasing Christmas gifts will be shared when we have a list of the children from West Virginia.
All Saints Sunday
Next Sunday, November 1, we will celebrate All Saints Day during worship. This special day on the liturgical calendar is a time to remember those “in the company of heaven” with whom we always worship and share the Lord’s Supper.  We will read the names of and light a candle for those who have died since All Saints Day last year. If you would like your loved one included, please contact Pastor Robin.

Plain Township Sunday School Convention

Workshop on United Methodist Sacraments
As United Methodists we celebrate two sacraments – Baptism and Holy Communion. Our lives in Christ are grounded in baptism and sustained by communion. We are called to not only receive these sacraments, but to live them. Would you like to learn more about these practices and understand their life-enriching value? Pastor Robin will lead a workshop on baptism and communion on Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. till Noon in Fellowship Hall. Those who pre-register by Sunday, November 16 will receive a free book. Register on today’s attendance slip or by calling the church office.
